Forgiveness is a powerful thing. In fact, it’s so powerful and so simple that most of us don’t even realize it is a tool we can use to improve the quality of our lives. Often it’s the most important tool. Research has proven that the ability to forgive can begin the process of healing from many terminal diseases such as cancer, lupus, and even crohn’s disease, to name a few. In my journey of forgiveness, every single time someone said or did something that made me feel inferior or reminded me of CF, I would get offended and begin to resent them and judge them. The biggest person I held resentment, judgment and unforgiveness toward though – was myself!
I’ll never forget the day that I looked in the mirror – straight into my own eyes – and said out loud, “Mandy, I forgive you for giving up and for thinking you weren’t good enough. I forgive you for the years you believed the words of death spoken over your life and I forgive you for not believing in yourself. I forgive you, I release you, and I bless you…and I renounce all judgments I have toward you. I’m proud of you, Mandy, and you’re going to make it. You are good enough!” To my surprise, big tears started rolling down my cheeks and I cried for several minutes after that. And then I felt lighter.
Forgiveness is serious stuff! It must become a daily part of our lives if we want to succeed. Until the day we die, people will say or do things that hurt us. The great news is that we can choose if we’re going to let that slow us down or not. We don’t have to carry the baggage with us everywhere we go. We can choose the beautiful path of forgiveness, the first step to walking by faith and not by sight. ~Chapter 4, In Sickness and In Health
We ask our clients many questions when it comes to forgiveness – and today we are going to ask ourselves these questions as we give you a peek into a coaching session on the Power of Forgiveness.
So Raychel… (or Mandy first? – each take turns answering these questions).
- In what ways has unforgiveness held you captive?
- How do you feel about forgiving yourself?
- Are there people that come to mind right now that you need to begin forgiving TODAY?
This exercise is something that YOU can do in your own journal time, and we highly encourage you to do so. Listen to this podcast again and begin journaling the questions and harnessing the power of forgiveness.
