Tweet Time for Spring Cleaning by: Madison Moericke Spring cleaning is in full force at the Moericke house this month, as we are finally able to open those dusty windows and let in some fresh air. I have been deep cleaning and minimizing every room in my house for the past month and there are a few things I have discovered under the rubble. (And it wasn’t just those flip-flops I searched for all last summer.) I can’t believe how much stuff we have managed to accumulate since we were married in 2010. Between things we came into the marriage with, things given to us by our parents, and things we happen to buy ourselves. I had to have a literal come to Jesus about all the junk we have had sitting in our home. Hidden in closets were shoes we never wore and coats that no longer fit us. worn out furniture sitting and waiting to “one day” be repaired or refurnished. So after the shock of what a massive project I had decided to undertake, I dug in and decided to start minimizing. It’s amazing to me that by eliminating the clutter in our bedroom we were instantly able to sleep better at night. By clearing out toys in our daughters room she is more inclined to play with the ones left in her room. By minimizing my make up to one small make up bag, It’s been more manageable to spend more time on myself in the morning before work. It may seem subtle and small and like maybe I’ve made it all up in my own mind but as my physical possessions dwindle so has the stress in my life. I have been able to stand still longer, enjoy what is surrounding me and have more time for the little things that matter. Is there some area in your life that you need to de-clutter? Whether it be your home, your mind, or your work schedule? By following through with my goals of eliminating the unnecessary in our home I’ve spent more quality time in prayer, and leaning into God. I have made more room for him in my life because I cleared away I stress I did not know I was carrying. So maybe spring cleaning isn’t a whole new “Aha moment” for me; however, realizing that by minimizing the clutter in my physical life I was able to minimize the clutter in my spiritual and creative life, was a very beautiful aha moment for me. ~ Miss Maddie Madison Moericke (Miss Maddie) is a Writer, Blogger, and Travel Nurse.
