Now Leaving Shiny Object Syndrome

Shiny Object SyndromeNow Leaving Shiny Object Syndrome

By: Mandy B. Anderson

It’s a beautiful moment when you see the fruit of your hard labor begin to sprout and grow. Building a business is not for the faint of heart. Going after any long-term goal isn’t. Blame it on shiny object syndrome.

I used to think that my dreams would just happen if I wanted them and believed in them hard enough. Life doesn’t work like that though. And success doesn’t happen over night. There have been moments on our journey at Big Blue Couch® Coaching where it felt like we were successful simply because we were the new shiny object and everyone was curious and excited. Those moments were brief. Shiny objects don’t tend to last long. So it takes more than excitement to reach a long-term goal. It takes commitment and an unbreakable resolve.

And the real test of resolve comes when things aren’t going your way and it feels like the bottom is dropping out. The jar of oil is empty and there’s NO WAY it will last another week!

But God.

What I’ve learned in the last two and a half years of building and leading this company with my BFF is that God works best when it looks like all hope is lost. He works silently too – chipping away at your rough edges when your prayers take longer than you’d like to be answered.

There is something precious in those silent, painful days. Something necessary for the future. Tenacity. Faith. Patience. A renewed vision. This year – 2016 – has been hard! It’s been the season of NOT YET and DON’T GIVE UP. And through it all God has been working in our hearts and knitting our team together in the best ways possible.

The 14-month calendar at the top of this post is the result of not giving up. It’s our PLAN. We no longer have just a “PL!” It’s our map and for the first time in the history of Big Blue Couch Coaching, it’s one that is uniquely us.

You might be dreaming about a “someday” hope. Maybe, you are just beginning your adventure. You might be going through the shiny object phase or you’ve suffered from shiny object syndrome yourself. Maybe you’re stuck in a dry season of your business or just life in general. Wherever you find yourself, be encouraged today to KEEP GOING. It will be worth it.

Much love,
