I’m Changing My Name to “Kicking Butt”

If you have seen the movie Joe Dirt you totally know what I’m talking about when I say that I’m changing my name to “Kicking Butt.” If you haven’t seen the movie, just know that I needed a kick in the butt. I needed to stop thinking about “someday.” Someday I’ll write a screenplay, someday I’ll read the backlog of books I have, someday I’ll learn how to play the piano…you know someday.

Well a funny thing happens when your friends are life coaches. You start to feel convicted and you want to get your life moving. I mean moving in the right direction. You might ask yourself “what is a life coach?” Well think about this, what does a coach of a sports team do? He or she controls the game plan and the strategy. Simply put the coach puts his players in the best position to succeed. A life coach does the same thing only instead of football or basketball or whatever your favorite sport is, it’s the game of life and we’re all playing.

I needed a life coach. Someone to call me out on my excuses, help me to move on from my failures and put me in the best position to succeed. The problem was I’m a guy and I don’t want to confront any of those things. I loved my excuses. They were my shield that allowed me to fail without putting the fault on me. I also didn’t want to be vulnerable. Are you kidding me? That would mean I would have to admit to a real live person that I’m afraid of failure.

Oh yeah, I’m afraid of failure. It feels good to write that down. I don’t think I would have been able to do that 3 months ago. That was an amazing thing for me to admit and it’s something that I think a lot of people need to do to move forward. What have you always wanted to do in your life? Did you know that it’s not too late? I saw a quote the other day that said:

“Never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”

Whoa. Let that sink in.

My first session with Coach Mandy was not as terrifying as I thought it was going to be. I was imagining Dolores Umbridge, from the Harry Potter books, telling me that I must not tell lies. dolores-umbridgeBut what I got was someone who was relatable, honest and most of all understanding. Mandy has a genuine desire to see people succeed and to show them the road to get there. She showed me that my past mistakes and failures have made me into the man I am today. It was a very revelatory experience for me because I feel like I’m seeing how my talents will align with God’s will for my life.

Yes, I believe that God has a plan for all of our lives. The key that seems to allude a lot of us is to align it with His will. I’ve always loved writing but I never actually thought about writing. What I mean by that is, I didn’t make it a priority. I didn’t carve out time every week to sit down and write, something that I do now. I was also afraid of what I was going to write about. How people would interpret or misinterpret what I was trying to say. What if no one likes it? Well obviously I’ve started to defeat that fear because you’re reading this blog. But the point is I didn’t get to this place on my own.

Throughout the courses I took I couldn’t believe how these simple tools Mandy was teaching me helped so much. They were so practical that I kept thinking to myself “why haven’t I been doing this all along?” I got so used to my routine that I actually became blinded by it.

Is this happening to you? Do you need a kick in the butt like I did? It’s okay, admitting it is a huge step (insert emoji high-five). The best advice I can give you is to get in touch with a life coach. Today. As in, stop reading this and don’t wait. (I’ll make it simple and even give you the link: Click Here!)

If you’re a guy reading this, I know the excuses are just piling up in your head. Don’t let them win, we already know how that plays out. Instead choose to be a warrior poet with me and William Wallace. We’re going to be storming the fields of Bannockburn later and it would be a shame if you missed it.
