3 Tips to Live with Intention This Year
By: Mandy B. Anderson
Ladies – 2018 is here and we cannot become all we were meant to be if we keep ourselves stuck in the past. To get something we’ve never had, we must be intentional about growing in areas we have never been willing to grow in before. (INTENTIONAL is one of the 4 Building Blocks of living beautifully whole.) So, grab a cup of coffee and let’s spend some time together over the next few moments and map out a plan for you to live with intention this year. Ready? Here we go…
Strengthen your Vision
QUESTION: What is your vision for your life?
Ancient wisdom says that a woman without a vision will perish. (See Proverbs 29:18)
Now, obviously, this doesn’t mean that you’ll drop dead on the spot if you don’t have a vision for your life. Could you imagine if that was the case?! Oofta! I’ve heard it said that most people die in their 20’s and just survive until they are buried in old age. That is one way to explain this verse.
Women who have no vision or dream for their lives end up living out their days without hope. They are easily controlled. Easily manipulated. And easily discouraged.
This year, to live with intention, you must take time to write down a vision for your life. It doesn’t have to be lengthy. You don’t even have to be 100% sure on everything you write down. The point is to start, and to allow yourself to dream and write it down. The beautiful thing about this is that as you write down your vision, you will gain clarity. You will begin to find HOPE again, and excitement will spur you on.
Here’s a few extra questions to ask yourself to strengthen your vision this year:
- What have you always been afraid to do for fear of judgement?
- What would make you feel 100% like YOU this year?
- Where would you like to travel?
- What experiences would you like to have this year and who would you like to have them with?
Strengthen your Mindset
QUESTION: Would you describe your mindset as strong, or as weak and easily filled with fear, anxiety, worry, and doubt?
Your mindset sets the stage for your reality. What you focus on is what you get. So what are you focusing on? Are you focusing on all the bad news in the world and the fears and worries that other people speak over you? Or are you choosing to focus on truth, hope, and words of life?
A beautifully whole woman cultivates a teachable spirit and seeks out opportunities to learn and grow in all areas of her life: mind, body, and spirit. She believes she can kill fear and doubt with consistent action and she guards her mind from negativity.
If you want to be live with intention this year, then you must strengthen your mindset on a continuous basis. Be diligent about this! Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Read books that feed your soul and build your faith.
- Speak Truth Statements® over yourself daily.
- Listen to Podcast episodes that encourage and equip you with new skills. Some of my favorites include:
- Elevation Church Podcast by Steven Furtick
- The Spirit Connection Podcast by Doug Addison
- Craig Groeschel Leadership Podcast
- Girls on the Big Blue Couch and Courageous Nation Podcast
Strengthen your Decision-Making Abilities
QUESTION: On a scale of 1-10, 1 being low and 10 being high, how would you rate your ability to make decisions confidently?
Indecision is a huge stumbling block for living with intention. Not being able to decide about something is deciding not to act. This keeps you stuck in a cycle of fear, worry, and doubt because nothing ever changes. Stop that! It’s time to confidently make a decision and then stick with it.
A beautifully whole woman is intentional about making decisions and following through. She understands that if she makes a mistake, she can learn from it and change direction when needed. This is the year to rise up and make decisions like never before. Decide about your vision. Make a decision about what you will and won’t listen to. Stand confidently on the choices you make and make new ones if the old ones aren’t creating the life you want.
Here’s a few extra questions to ask yourself to strengthen your decision-making abilities this year:
- What is 1 decision you can make and act on in the next 48 hours?
- How will it feel to finally make a decision on the thing you have been procrastinating on?
- When will you follow through?
It really is within your grasp to live with intention this year.
