3 Things I Learned in 2016 by, Raychel Chumley
Over the last few weeks I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting over the things I learned in 2016. The joys, the successes, the pain, and the failures have all worked together to teach me some pretty amazing things. This month in our Steady On Coaching Program we are spending 30 days reflecting, with a focus on gratitude, on what this year taught each of us. I’ve never done anything like this before! It’s been eye-opening to say the least; and, today I want to share with you the things I learned in 2016 about myself, others, and God.
Gratitude: Warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness, or benefits received.
#1 I am not a quitter
One of the things I learned in 2016 is I am not a quitter. Unfortunately, I know what it’s like to give up. In my 20s I started and quit like 5 different tech and college programs. I know how to give up when the going get’s tough, or I get bored, or I lose focus of why I started something. Most of 2016 was a lesson in what not to do in business, and life, and it got so hard sometimes! There were days (lots of them!) throwing in the towel and quitting sounded amazing. Sure, I might have thought about it, cried about it, and even planned it some days…but I didn’t! I stayed the course and finished this year strong. Turns out I’m not a quitter after all.
#2 There is healing in community
One of my favorite things I learned about others this year is that there really is healing in community. It’s something I’ve experienced before in various Bible studies and women’s gatherings throughout my life. But, I’ve never seen it consistently demonstrated like I did in 2016 with the amazing champions that came to spend time on the couch this year.
Watching the women in our coaching groups and events overcome obstacles, build their faith, and knock down lies and excuses, hand and hand with one another makes me tear up just thinking about. These women showed me that we are so much stronger together than we are apart! After all the church hurt I’ve experienced in the last few years, I’m so thankful 2016 allowed me to witness with my own two eyes the healing power of community.
#3 God is Faithful
Wow. His faithfulness has me in awe! He proved himself faithful to the dreams I had as a little girl when my first book was published this year. He was faithful to the restoration he promised for my marriage me as young bride. Even though my marriage hit one of the rockiest seasons it’s seen in a decade- God’s was faithful to that promise. He was faithful to helping me find purpose for my pain when I wrote Unbroken.
These are the 3 things I learned in 2016! Life changing lessons to say the least!
But, what about you? What are the things you learned in 2016? What did you learn about yourself, about other people, and about God? I encourage you to take the time and answer those questions for yourself. Let’s end 2016 with intention, grace, and gratitude.
